I enjoy painting in watercolor and drawing in graphite. The above is a self portrait I painted a couple years ago. I teach watercolor and drawing classes at Neighborhood Connection.

I have illustrated a yoga therapy book for my sister Nancy Williams. My post on the subject may be found here.

  1. leslie what a great sight , your paintings are awsome, but i already knew that, thanks for sharing this site with me

    • Thanks Dawyn!

  2. Very cool Spike, so glad you got involved and discovered what the net can do for you. Keep going. Your style should be shared with the world. I haven’t seen some of these, so this is a good way for me to keep up with what you are doing…

    • Thanks a bunch, Tracey.

  3. Leslie, your artwork is not only both rich of hue and colorfully dramatic (two separate things to the eyes of many beholders)but,at the same time, also seems imbued with the highest sense of your own perceptivity about life, love, nature, and what makes up the most precious things in our lives, both the animate things and the inanimate thing, too. Your understanding of the mind behind the horse’s eyes and his powerful sense of self inside your portrayal of his body, in any stance or pose, lends a quality to your equine artworks that are unique and highly complimentary to these magnificent fellow earthlings. Your artwork rocks!

    • Wow! Thank-you so much, Jill.

  4. Leslie, your watercolors are colorful and really beautifully done. An awesome experience to see your paintings!

    • Thank-you, Lily. I’m following your painting, also.

  5. Leslie, you are an inspiration to me. I just realized, that as I was browsing your blog here, a sense of calm washed over me as if I were walking through an art gallery! How wonderful to have that power through your art. I’m so glad to have met you.

    • Thank-you, Lisa. That means a ton to me.

  6. Leslie, Finally found your site. Your control of watercolor is admirable. The site is very enjoyable and varied. Best of luck. Anna DiGesu

    • Thank-you, Anna.

  7. Spike! What an amazing site! I’m fortunate enough to have seen some of these in person and your talent continues to blow me away. I will continue to check this site out, so keep ’em coming!!

    • WOW! I miss you. Thanks for the great comment!

  8. Well – this has been an inspiring and relaxing visit. Thank you – I love your work – Stephen

    • Thank-you. I visit your site every day to see what you’ve drawn or painted.

  9. Firstly thank you for visiting my blog and your compliments and supportive comments.

It’s been a real pleasure exploring your blog – I love those fluid, colourful watercolours! I will be back.

    • Thank-you, Sarah. I’ll be returning to yours, also.

  10. Many thanks for your uplifting comments on my site – and for all your help. Your site is fascinating and I can see I’ll be spending quite some time here.

  11. Thank-you. Your compliment means a great deal to me. If what I shared about filing your post doesn’t work, then get back with me. I don’t want you to quit on watercolor. I spent a great deal of time with a friend exploring a lot of possibilities with the medium. The books are just a guide. A lot you have to learn by trial and error.

  12. Well, i have had my eye out for your blog as i couldn’t link through your comments. I’m glad i came you clearly know your technique and your style. I will be back

  13. I’ve checked out alot of your work, they all seem awesome.

I use to make a huge profit from drawing and painting, but after my girlfriend up and left I kinda stopped and just picked-up a camera instead.

    Thanks for sharing

    Raven

    • Thank-you, Raven. I laughed so hard when I saw your sign photos. I hope you start drawing and painting again. Your photography is good, too.

  14. Leslie, just a suggestion, if you would like to sometime– every now & then I will use an illustration (usually a painting) to accompany one of my haiku for my blog.

Should you find one that you feel might “match up” with one, just let me know. Also, if perhaps I find one that seems to feel right, perhaps I’ll ask you if it would be OK to use it (with proper credits and links of course).

Just something to think about. 🙂

    Thanks,
    ~ josh

    • Josh,
I would be honored. If you see anything, let me know. If I see something, I’ll let you know.

  15. Leslie,

I’d like to feature your Columbia Street bridge painting at my personal blog (aTaylorMadeLife.com). From time to time I like to highlight art that is not only created by local artists, but those pieces that feature our Fort Wayne area as well. I would, of course, provide full credit and a link to your site.

Thanks – and thanks for sharing your wonderful, vivid, creative works.

    Joe

    • I’d be honored, Joe. Thank-you for letting me know about you!

  16. I just wanted to come by and say thank you for regularly visiting my pages and for all your lovely comments. I have many visitors but very few people comment, so it’s lovely that you take the time out to write something. I really appreciate the support. I really love your work and it’s great to see your process as well.

    • Thanks, Heather. I think comments keep us all going……Smile.

    • Hi Jeanie! Thank-you so much for visiting.I didn’t even know you did; you are so quiet about it. Yay! Someone from Chicago could actually recognize them. You know that fuels me to get better.

  18. Hi,Leslie 🙂

  19. Welcome to my blogroll list,Leslie 🙂
It’s an honour for me to be your friend.
    Your blog it’s great.

    Enjoy the moment!!! 🙂

  20. Leslie,

I have made a new years resolution to make time to communicate more with other artists and you have created a perfect opportunity to do that with your web site. I have enjoyed reading the comments and have been inspired!

Your figure paintings are fantastic! For me, the more difficult thing to learn is how to render what I see in a way other than what is obvious and right in front of me. You provide plenty of examples of how to overcome that tendency and bring the subject to life.
Thankyou and I look forward to visiting your site often.

    Jim

    • Hi Jim. First of all, thank-you for saying I create an opportunity for you to communicate. I love your New Year’s Resolution! I hope talking on a blog about art, from time to time, is a good experience. It seems, if I stick with one approach, my work starts to have less and less of me or the experience in it. I become bored. I’m always looking for ways to either see or feel differently about what I’m trying to render.

  21. Prof Leslie,
I move to a different orbit viewing your creative paints. I extend my gratitude for your appreciation about my haiku poems, recently appeared in The Akita Haiku International.

Your paintings portray a world of difference, a nature of beauty and bliss! It speaks a lot about prose and poetry.

    With profound regards

  22. I love this site – and your work. I’m an Australian photographer and art lover. I came across this while browsing. What a treat. Thank you for the generosity with which you have shared your knowledge here.

  23. Leslie! My mom just sent me my copy of the book! The illustrations are beautiful and absolutely perfect for the book! Congratulations on being published! Love, Kate

    • Kate, thank-you, thank-you for visiting me on the blog and complimenting the illustrations. You are so thoughtful!

  24. Leslie, Last week, in class, we were trying to remember the name of the artist who did the dog art, wrote dog books and had a dog chapel. His name was Stephen Huneck. As I was looking for this information, I was shocked to find out
that he passed away earlier this year. Just thought I’d pass this along.
    Jerri

    • Thank-you, Jerri! For those of you who wish to know what we are talking about, we discussed that some artists find they can say a lot of what they want to say with simple shapes and I described the art of Stephen Huneck, but couldn’t remember his name. This is a link to his site: http://www.dogmt.com/

  25. I enjoy viewing your artwork. You are inspiring. I’m placing a link to your site on my blogroll at http://adamsart.wordpress.com. Come by and visit sometime.

    • Thank-you! I have been over a couple times to view the Biblical art you posted. I found that fascinating.

    • Hi Marvin,
Thank-you, and you are kind to ask. I would be honored. I will have to catch up on your poetry. I read a few tonight and you are quite a poet!

  29. Hi Leslie,
I added you to my blogroll, because I like the way you do things and paint and sketch, etc. Hope it is OK with you.
    All the best to you!

  30. Leslie —

Thanks for visiting my site and your encouraging comments.

I may just try to reconnect with my old friend.

What have I got to lose, right??

    Judson

  31. Thanks so much for liking my water color, if you think I have done some decent job, then it means a lot to me and the credit goes to you!

  32. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your site. I learn so much here and enjoy watching the works you produce. I recommend anyone who is learning to come to your art blog.
    Thank you Leslie.

    • Thank-you so much, Debbie. I enjoy sharing with all of you. You need to know that I enjoy your site, also. The fact that you work in charcoal and graphite is most refreshing. I am amazed with your vision. I just hope I include enough explanation when I share a technique. I am still learning so much, myself! 🙂

You don’t seem to set limits on yourself when it come to creating artwork. This is one of the key things that help me. You help me to open the inside of myself up more without setting limits on myself. Because of this I have been able to create with more depth and contrast. You have helped me with my art in more ways than I really know how to explain. It’s about a different mind set and freedom.

    • What a gift you have just given me with your words. If I can help others to judge themselves, less, in order to not stifle their journey forward, I am a happy soul! Could not access your site…

  33. Hi Leslie. The comment left bylordjesusreigns was actually me leaving you a reply. I happened to be logged into it and didn’t realize it. That site is undergoing some changes which is why the link does not work right now. The site still opens though if you wanted to go there. Just a link problem. Please forgive the mix-up.

Anyway I’m not the one that gave you a gift with my words-only the truth. You’re the one that gives the gift.

    • 🙂 Now I remember. That was how I found your art blog! Thank-you, Debbie!

  34. Leslie, I’m the LA who posts on Kate’s blog, & another Leslie who is honored to share a name with you, because you make that name proud. Thanks for sharing.

    • Thank-you, Leslie, for letting me know. Are you the one who posts in Kate’s absence?…or do you have your own blog on wordpress, also? I do not know many Leslies, so it is always a pleasure to meet another.

  35. Awesome site with splendid art!

    • Wow, thank you Sartenada. Your photography is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you!

  36. Love your work – thought I’d subscribe so I can see your work in the future too. Chloe xx

  37. Hi Leslie, I didn’t have your new email. I hope it is ok to contact you this way. I wanted to let you know that the Watercolor Society of Indiana is hosting a 5 day workshop given by Gerald Brommer. It is September 13-17, 2011 here in Indy. The Subject is Landscape Painting with Stained Paper and Collage. I didn’t know if you would be interested or not. The workshop will be held in the community center for one of the large apartment complexes in Indy. I can get additional info for you if you are interested…

    • That would be awesome if I wasn’t already back to teaching at that time or babysitting Granddaughter. I am going to leave your comment up here in case someone else in the area may be able to attend this workshop. Brommer is the one whose book I am following on rice paper collage and watercolor. Oh, someday to be free enough to attend workshops other than in my own hometown! Thank you, Linda!

  38. I have enjoyed browsing your Space my friend and your talents for
    drawing and painting are wicked…

Wicked in the positive sense of the word I mean…

Have a lovely rest of weekend Leslie…

    Androgoth

    • 🙂 I have to smile, Andro. Thank you. I rather like your reference to “wicked”. You have had me running to wikipedia to learn more about Goth culture and music and literature. I am not Goth but love a “fright” story and found your Ozzy post. …I believe I said something like; “Who doesn’t like Ozzy?”

  39. Hey Leslie – I tried to find a subscribe button on your site but couldn’t – did I just miss it?

    • I don’t know about a button. I’m so non-techno. I know I have subscribers because my admin pages say so. There is a follow button at the top of the page in that admin bar. I wonder if you click on that while visiting, if it subscribes you? I don’t know. Maybe if one of my sibscribers reads this, they will jump in and tell you how to do that, here. Thank you!

  40. Hi, I’m so happy to have stumbled onto your site. What a wonderful artist you are! I love your colors and composition. Your paintings create such wonderful emotions. I’m so glad you paint.

    M

    • Hi Mary Rose,
Thankyou so much for the comment, Mary Rose. You are an accomplished watercolorist yourself! I took time to look at your website and was so impressed with your style. Do you have a blog, also, where you post what you are doing? Thanks again!

  41. Hi Leslie, I forgot to give you my blog info: http://picturebookpalooza.blogspot.com/ Happy Holidays! Dianna

    • Thank you Dianna! I am going to add your blog in the writing section of my blogs I visit. I remembered, after class, also. Merry Christmas to you and yours! 🙂

  42. Hey Leslie,
I admire your work and blog that is why I have nominated you for the 7×7 Blog Award! If you have received it before please accept it again. If you don’t accept awards that is fine too, no problem. Congrats and smiles,

  43. Hi Leslie.

I received the Versatile Blogger Award recently. I am nominating several of my favorite blogs and yours is one of them.

And thanks for your advices and for sharing your art.

    Regards.

  44. WOW so i was able to find enough facts on you for my school project and i shared all that you thought blind contour was and my art teacher was the most amazed and he said he had never ever thought of it that way and so he wanted to copy it and use it to help the students better! he absolutely loved everything on how you described it! EVERYTHING!! thank you so he has now explained blind contour on how you explained it and everything in class and i think it really has helped thank you!!!!!

    • Thank you for this Fundipperox. That is why I began blogging; to share ideas and to learn from others. You just did the same.
I am just passing on what I have learned about blind contour from a very good drawing teacher that I took a class from way back in the 80’s.
I am sorry I was not able to get in touch with you prior to your paper being due but had not been on line those few days.

  45. Found your sight by happy accident. Love the elephant. Going to give it a try. Thanks you so much for the instructions on how to get started with the painting. Have been away from painting for many years. Love the pen and ink with the watercolors.

    • Thank you, so much, for this comment. That is just the reason I began sharing what I do. It gives a place for my own students to come as well as other artists to share ideas about what they do! If you try this and come up with more info, don’t be afraid to share, here, what you learned, Kaye. Thank you, again! 🙂

  46. Hi, I found you through comments you made on a mutual follow, and I’m so glad I found you! Your art is incredible, inspiring! and I look forward to seeing future posts! ~Scott

  47. Leslie, about a year or so ago, you gave me permission to share your post on Grandpa Elliot and underpaint on the collabrative blog, “Into the Bardo.” I have resurrected it – love it – and scheduled it for posting again on Friday, June 21. I hope that’s okay with you. Let me know if not.

    Thanks! and Warmest regards,
    Jamie

  48. Hi Leslie,

I really enjoy your work. I’m hoping you might be open to having one of your pieces featured as artwork for a music project I’m working on. There is one in particular I feel would be perfect as an album cover.

I can’t find an e-mail address for you but if you send even a blank e-mail to info@rossbreen.com, I can explain in full.

    Keep up the good work,

    Ross.

  49. Your paintings are amazing, fascinated me. Thank you, with my love, nia

  50. Leslie, thanks for stopping by & checking out my work. Your work is wonderful and I love that you also post student work. I will follow with enthusiasm! Have an artful day!

    • Thank you, so much, Marian. I am glad I took the time to check your blog out. I am enjoying your work, also!

  51. I am just calling in to wish you a very Merry Christmas

  52. I came across your Harvest Moon watercolor – it is so arresting! Do you sell prints?
    Claudia D.

    • Hi Claudia,
Thank you for that comment to Harvest Moon. That was just painted on a tiny scrap of gesso textured paper. I don’t make prints. I’m sorry.

  53. Just came across your site at Gayle’s blog. I, too, love art apart from my writing and am only in the last five years beginning to use water color. I have used just about all mediums but watercolor keeps drawing (no pun intended) in. Will be back to look through your site again.

    • Thank you, Renee. Watercolor is such a fun medium. Hope you enjoy it!

  54. Hello! My name is Camilla, and I don’t know if you remember me, but I used to have a blog called love mother nature for a while, and I used to follow your blog. It is so nice to see your blog again, your paintings are beautiful! You gave me a painting once, and I love it so much 🙂

  55. Hello There,
My name is Aaron George from California. I actually observed my wife has been viewing your website on my laptop and i guess she likes your piece of work. I’m also impressed and amazed to have seen your various works too, You are doing a great job. I would like to purchase one of your Figures “Reading” as a surprise to my wife on our anniversary. Also, let me know your mode of Payment.

    Thanks and best regards
    Aaron.

    • Thank you for your compliments to my work, Aaron. I am sorry to say that I no longer have that painting. Those figure paintings were painted quite a few years ago and most of them have found homes other than in my portfolio.

  56. Hi Leslie! I came across your site while looking for images to share with my own art students. I can’t seem to find a contact page, so I’m taking a shot here. I’d love to use some of your examples on my school’s learning system, so I am asking for permission to share some of your images. You can contact me at the email provided or reply to the post. Thanks in advance!

    • I did reply through email, Leslie. Thank you for asking and for commenting here.

  57. Leslie, I would like to find a date in 2023 that would be good to show your student’s work at UU. Call me at 260-580-6457 thanks
