I enjoy painting in watercolor and drawing in graphite. The above is a self portrait I painted a couple years ago. I teach watercolor and drawing classes at Neighborhood Connection.

I have illustrated a yoga therapy book for my sister Nancy Williams. My post on the subject may be found here.

Your understanding of the mind behind the horse’s eyes and his powerful sense of self inside your portrayal of his body, in any stance or pose, lends a quality to your equine artworks that are unique and highly complimentary to these magnificent fellow earthlings.   11. Thank-you. Your compliment means a great deal to me. If what I shared about filing your post doesn’t work, then get back with me. I don’t want you to quit on watercolor. I spent a great deal of time with a friend exploring a lot of possibilities with the medium. The books are just a guide. A lot you have to learn by trial and error.

    I use to make a huge profit from drawing and painting, but after my girlfriend up and left I kinda stopped and just picked-up a camera instead.

  14. Leslie, just a suggestion, if you would like to sometime– every now & then I will use an illustration (usually a painting) to accompany one of my haiku for my blog.

    Should you find one that you feel might “match up” with one, just let me know. Also, if perhaps I find one that seems to feel right, perhaps I’ll ask you if it would be OK to use it (with proper credits and links of course).

    Just something to think about. 🙂

    I have made a new years resolution to make time to communicate more with other artists and you have created a perfect opportunity to do that with your web site. I have enjoyed reading the comments and have been inspired!

    Your figure paintings are fantastic! For me, the more difficult thing to learn is how to render what I see in a way other than what is obvious and right in front of me. You provide plenty of examples of how to overcome that tendency and bring the subject to life.

I hope talking on a blog about art, from time to time, is a good experience. It seems, if I stick with one approach, my work starts to have less and less of me or the experience in it. I become bored. I’m always looking for ways to either see or feel differently about what I’m trying to render.

  24. Leslie, Last week, in class, we were trying to remember the name of the artist who did the dog art, wrote dog books and had a dog chapel. His name was Stephen Huneck. As I was looking for this information, I was shocked to find out
    that he passed away earlier this year. Just thought I’d pass this along.

    You don’t seem to set limits on yourself when it come to creating artwork. This is one of the key things that help me. You help me to open the inside of myself up more without setting limits on myself. Because of this I have been able to create with more depth and contrast. You have helped me with my art in more ways than I really know how to explain. It’s about a different mind set and freedom.

    • What a gift you have just given me with your words. If I can help others to judge themselves, less, in order to not stifle their journey forward, I am a happy soul! Could not access your site…

I wanted to let you know that the Watercolor Society of Indiana is hosting a 5 day workshop given by Gerald Brommer. It is September 13-17, 2011 here in Indy. The Subject is Landscape Painting with Stained Paper and Collage. I didn’t know if you would be interested or not. The workshop will be held in the community center for one of the large apartment complexes in Indy. I can get additional info for you if you are interested…

    • I don’t know about a button. I’m so non-techno. I know I have subscribers because my admin pages say so. There is a follow button at the top of the page in that admin bar. I wonder if you click on that while visiting, if it subscribes you? I don’t know. Maybe if one of my sibscribers reads this, they will jump in and tell you how to do that, here. Thank you!

WOW so i was able to find enough facts on you for my school project and i shared all that you thought blind contour was and my art teacher was the most amazed and he said he had never ever thought of it that way and so he wanted to copy it and use it to help the students better! he absolutely loved everything on how you described it! EVERYTHING!! thank you so he has now explained blind contour on how you explained it and everything in class and i think it really has helped thank you!!!!!

      I am just passing on what I have learned about blind contour from a very good drawing teacher that I took a class from way back in the 80’s.
      I am sorry I was not able to get in touch with you prior to your paper being due but had not been on line those few days.

      Thank you for that comment to Harvest Moon. That was just painted on a tiny scrap of gesso textured paper. I don’t make prints. I’m sorry.

    • Thank you for your compliments to my work, Aaron. I am sorry to say that I no longer have that painting. Those figure paintings were painted quite a few years ago and most of them have found homes other than in my portfolio.
