We just completed our fall beginning drawing class.
We began with blind continuous line drawing.
We progressed to continuous and broken line drawing…
…with an emphasis on cross contour and form:
We studied and drew objects that had negative space that helped define their shape.
We studied perspective and drew interiors.
We studied value from still life…
…and photos:
We practiced all our skills the last night of class using an Elegant Writer” calligraphy pen to create a line a wash drawing.

Thank you to all the students who agreed to share their work here!

So nice to see all these drawings. I really love contour drawing….ink and bamboo pen and perhaps water brushed.
I remember you said you liked contour drawing. I spent many years just drawing, mostly with line and ink before I found that I liked watercolor. I think drawing is every artist’s first addiction. Thank you for this comment, Gretchen!
Thank you for sharing Leslie.
Thank you for taking the time to view them, Susan.
Fantastic work. I’m always so impressed by your students.
Thank you Carol!
Like the way the interior is drawn – the bathroom.
Thank you Joe!
Thank you! It is so interesting to see the increasing complexity and how you develop their skills.
The beginner classes are always the ones that I wish I had more time with. Thank you for this comment, Linda.
Hi Leslie, I have a question about WordPress. I can’t find a way to search. I used to be able to click on the category Watercolor and get a current listing of the most recent watercolor posts. I can’t even find a search box anywhere to search. Can you tell me how to find the watercolor blog posts? I would appreciate any help you can get. Linda
Sorry I didn’t get back to you the other day but I don’t get on my computer daily anymore. You can still go to wordpress.com. It will take you to a page that has a column on the lefthand side. If you scroll down, you will see “tags” with an arrow. Click on the arrow and all your tags will be there. Say, if you click on watercolors? A stream of watercolor posts will appear on the right that are recent. That is like what we used to have.
Drawing is the most important skill for an artist because it teaches them to REALLY look. These are all terrific and it’s obvious that all your students have great talent. I especially like the results of the blind contour drawings, they always make me think of Picasso.
Aww i like yourdrawings
