The above painting is my Granddaughter with her “PINK” hat, which she loves, and her horse, Duchess, who she also loves!

About halfway through this painting, I started chuckling when I remembered my sister, then 4, and I, then 6, riding our rocking horses in the family room while singing along to this at the end of the show.Β  πŸ™‚

  1. Beautiful painting πŸ™‚

  2. What a keepsake for your beauty of a grand-daughter!!
And….thanks for those RR memories…my sisters and I used to sing this closing song, as well.

    • Thankyou! Ha! I love it that someone else was doing the same thing!

    Beautiful πŸ™‚

  3. Awww, Your granddaughter is beautiful and so big! I can’t even imagine what it would be like to have my very own horse.

I love how you painted the horse and the bottom right hand corner where you didn’t quite finish the arm and the fence but left it white.

Is your granddaughter very tall, standing on something or is that horse short? She seems as tall as the horse.

    • Duchess is a Haflinger. They are smaller horses and range in size from large pony to small horse, but are a horse. Here is a video that tells a bunch about them and you can see their smaller size in relation to people in the video: The Granddaughter is tall for her age, but Duchess is stocky and not tall, has a wonderful temperment and makes a great first horse for her. All Haffflingers are variations of this golden chestnut color and have aflaxen mane and tail.
Thank you for the comments and about that fading out.

      • Thanks for the info Leslie. It was interesting finding out about Haflinger horses.

what a beautiful painting, your granddaughter looks so happy in her pink hat
    with her horse…
    your art is amazing…
I really like this one ( okay I like them all, but this reminds me of my granddaughter, she had
pink boots too…such a girly girl, though last night as I watched her under
the dogpile of 7 football players, girly girl didn’t seem to fit)
    Yes this is beautiful…
    Take Care…

    • Ha! I love your story of your Granddaughter, the pink boots and then the football pile. This Granddaughter is like that, also. Thank you!

  4. Your granddaughter is beautiful and so is her horse!! I don’t really remember this show but I do remember hearing it spoken about. Doesn’t mean I didn’t watch it though…

    • Ha! I was a horse lover from an early age so any show with horses in it got me on that rocking horse and gave me a chance to pretend. Thank you for your visit and comment, Sherry. πŸ™‚

  5. What a great painting of the two of them! Also, thanks for the memories of one of my favorite tv shows “back in the day”!

    • Oh yes! Back in the day filled with Fury and Gunsmoke and Rawhide and The Lone Ranger. πŸ™‚ You are a horse lover and perhaps even watched the horses more than following the storylines, like me? I still watch them today on that channel they have for the old shows, when I see that they are on. TV has really changed since then. Thank you!

  6. Oh my gosh, this painting is so wonderful!!! It will be a forever treasure for your granddaughter!

    • I guess the place on the wall has already been planned by the daughter, Mom of Granddaughter. Thank you for this comment, Beth! πŸ™‚

  7. I love the beautiful colors in the horses muzzle. I can feel how soft it is. The horse is beautifully done as is your grandaughter. And I want one of those pink hats!

    • You are so funny. I want one too! The one she has is really too big for her head as you can see. We could pass it around but I’ll bet she wouldn’t want to do that. πŸ™‚ Thankyou!

  8. Such a sweet picture of your granddaughter and her horse. I certainly remember Roy and Dale and Fury. I saw them once (1976?) When I had an animal exhibit at the stare fair in grad school. He rode (not a palomino) and she was in a jeep. I haven’t thought about that in years. Thanks for the memories.

    • Ha! I’m jealous. You got to see Dale and Roy Rogers LIVE? Thank you!

  9. Such a beautiful head on that horse! Wow. As for your granddaughter, wonderful! She looks like a tough cookie, that one. But that horse, dang! The perspective is a tricky one but spot on!

    • Wow! Thank you for this comment. That horse was a little more difficult because of the position of her head, but I really wanted to paint her. The Granddaughter has energy plus and is so much fun to be with.

  10. One of your masterpieces Leslie! How amazing for your grand daughter to own this picture, it is an emotional piece connecting you two and also the time you spent on this one making you remember your own childhood days, it is very special!

    • Thank you, so much, Padmaja. I am going to have to dig through my stored box of pictures and find the photo I took of my daughter about the same age as the Granddaughter and she is standing next to her horse. πŸ™‚ They’d make a great pair. I need to paint it. The Granddaughter looks like the copy of the Mom.
