just beautiful Leslie…. working on clouds at the moment and it was lovely to see this to inspire me:)
Thank-you, Rahina! Weren’t we painting and drawing clouds late summer and into the fall Last year? They are so abstract and wonderful…..I have not captured them with the flair I wish to someday and I think that is their allure. Have fun! π
This is so serene and peace-filled – what a lovely painting
Thank-you Jackie. There seemed to be a stillness in this scene. I see what you mean about peaceful.
Gorgeous, Leslie! Spectacular light!
Thank-you, Alex. What do you do with white, Right? Everytime there is a large amount of white, it forces me to get my creativity into the mix. Do you find that to be true? I play in it. π
Wow wow… π π This is a great piece of art work. Thanks for sharing very inspiring π
Thank-you, Alonso. Three smileys. Love it! π
Gorgeous light. I feel positive and hopeful when I look at this – like when the world is scrubbed clean after a storm.
I was hoping it appeared more like a storm has passed. Thank-you, Linda, for seeing that. π
Happy Easter Leslie. The scene is so peacefull and serene.I like how the light touches the water, seems like there’s a path leading to somewhere.
Thanks, Francis! Like a path for a journey? That is what I was hoping. You picked up on it. Happy Easter, Francis! You are who I consider the master of light! Truly. π
i like the light feel this painting has.
you’ve done it again leslie
Thank-you, Kokot. It amazes me how important light can be in art. I am working on it. Sometimes I can get it but most times I struggle. Perhaps that is something that keeps us all going?
I like this. It’s very uplifting. π
Thank-you! π
Beautiful scene Leslie. Love the colour in the sky and the reflection of it on the water. Very calming.
Thanks, Heather! The sky was an even brighter blue in the reference but I couldn’t quite match it.
Beautiful nonetheless.
Leslie, this is wonderful! There’s a lot of light in it – it’s fresh and airy – I can almost smell the brine! It has life and movement too – well done again!
Thank-you, Lynda! Smell the brine? lol You have supplied me with the impetous to try another of these someday. π
Leslie, this is so dramatic and breath-taking! It is loaded with WOW Factor!! π
Thank-you, Beth. I thought of you when I added those little streaks of color under the clouds. I know you would have added more! π
ha ha ha I do love color, but you added just the right amount!!! It’s absolutely perfect! (I’m still giggling) π
Oh Leslie, fresh and clean and calm again after a storm. You painted light!!!
K
Thank-you, Karen! I needed that!
Leslie, what a lovely gift. Oh to walk along that water….mmmm. You never cease to amaze me with your art.
Thanks, Eva. I wouldn’t mind going there, myself!
professional process π big up
Thank-you, Simonluca (do I have your name correct?). That means a lot! π
Hi Leslie,
Wow! That’s such a freely painted sky. The light falls beautifully into it.
K
Thank-you, K! I am trying to understand and learn how to render a skyscape with clouds. I find them difficult and am hoping, with practice, I improve on what I have done with skies in the past.
Leslie, this is so luminous ! Absolutely beautiful!
Thanks, Isabelle! I really am fascinated by your latest muse painting.
WOWZA, this is awesome. I finally went to college when I was 31 n 32 and one of the most memorable paintings I saw that has stuck with me to this day is an absolutely gorgeous landscape of a distant field with the clouds being the center of interest. for me your painting is right there with that little work of art so long ago forever in my grape.
Peace n Abundance,
CheyAnne

Thank-you, Cheyanne! I feel honored. This is a wonderful comment and fuels me to keep trying these. I find clouds and skies so challenging to capture in paint.
Okay Lady! I GASPED when I saw this and uttered ‘Oh My GOD!’ over and over. This is one of my favourites. Lord! You captured one of my favourite things to look at. Sigh and triple sigh. Just glorious. Thank You and WOW. Cheers and Namaste. π
Dear Bliss. Thank-you so much. I, too, am mesmerized by clouds and the color in the sky. Your comment means a ton on this.
I love your use of light and the otherworldly feeling you get while looking at this painting. Beautiful colors as well! You used just enough warm tones to make the painting feel a bit joyful, as though reflecting on a fond memory.
I wish I had witnessed something like this in real life. I am rarely by a large body of water. I have seen some pretty amazing cloud formations, though. Thank-you, Bree, for your comment and especially for saying “otherworldly”. I was searching for that.
Beautiful, dramatic, wonderful. You have managed to capture the magnificence of the light coming through the clouds!
Thank-you, Carol. It took me forever to figure out that there was yellow in it. I kept staring at the reference trying to figure out what caused the light to be different below the clouds than what I saw above. I painted swatches on practice papers until I figured out the yellow. I was reading in a watercolor book about clouds, last night, and the author said “don’t forget the yellow in clouds”. LOL Wish I’d read that sooner.Might not have taken so long……
Not only calming but almost spiritual. The light and reflections are absolutely gorgeous. Beautifully captured Leslie!
Thank-you for the comment on “almost spiritual”, Ryan. I tried for some of that as Ichabod spoke on spiritual topics quite a bit. He would be pleased, I think. Have you tried clouds? I would think you would be able to render a fantastic piece on them.
Hi Leslie!
I didn’t comment on this one right away, I felt that I need time to think about it, and look at it… There’s something about the light that makes me want to step into the image. You made the sea perfectly, just as I remember in my mind the perfect, genuine “gold”. I always think to myself that the truly valuable gold is the one in the sea that nobody can catch, or fight over or kill over, or sell and buy as if everything can be valued in money. You can set a price on something like that. The gold in the sea, I mean. It’s always going to be too incredible… π
Do you live near the sea, Camilla. I didn’t look your town up on a map. Thank-you for the comment on the gold. It took me forever to figure out that there was yellow in this. I stared at the reference and kept playing around with colors on another sheet of paper till I tried yellow for that gold you speak of. See? I could have just asked you! π
I do, or I live by a fjord. There’s a river in my town and it runs out into a fjord. I have great views over the fjord from my house, and you don’t have to walk for a very long time to get there. Yeah, you could have π
Lovely clouds, nice silver lining too. There is a light area that divides the picture vertically. It works well.
Thank-you, Jay. Dividing the picture vertically is not too good a thing. I was hoping that I had taken care of that by creating a halo effect on water and a reverse one in the sky. Next time I’ll exagerrate that a little more or give more of a foreground. Thank-you for pointing that out as I’ll need to watch for that. π
Actually it is a good thing, and a fundamental approach to composition. Edgar Degas did it all the time. You don’t know everything, you know π
No. I don’t know everything. I am glad you pointed it out. I try not to divide my compositions because I fear not being able to handle it if I do. That is what I should have said. Sorry. I was appreciative that you pointed it out.
i’ve seldom seen the magick of light as you convey it here. it’s absolutely stunning and moving. such gifting…
Thank-you, jruthkelly. I wanted something with a path of light for Ichabod as I felt he wrote so well about things like that, like you do!
Amazing.
Thank-you, Adam of the gorgeous sunrise photo!
This definately deserves enlarging – that way you see all those nice little white marks of the water in an almost abstracted way. The masking fluid gives an effect which reminds me of lino cuts which I find appealing.
Thank-you, Sonya. I like that reference you make to a lino cut look.
I loved your wild daffodils, by the way! In fact, I can still picture the entire composition in my mind, it was so powerful.
There’s something special going on with your work!
Thank-you, Keith!
Oh, please keep trying them, Leslie. You are doing amazing work with clouds – and they are so very mystical, for some reason to me. We photographers find them fascinating subjects, too!
I have to, Kate. You started something with your photo that I can’t seem to let go of. π
Hai! – see how the clouds shine – brilliant – this is beautiful Leslie
Thank-you, Stephen! π
Hi Leslie;
I came to visit and was taken aback by the picture of the dog and was about to leave a comment, then I scrolled down and saw this picture, not looking at the title.
I fell in love with the picture and was going to leave a comment on it then I noticed the title.
You floored me. π
Thank you so much, you made my day today. π
Thank-you for visiting! I had to do something as I enjoyed your writing many a morning. I truly wish you light on your journey forward. π
Wow Leslie- your comment roster is rivaling the NY Times blog page.
And with each scroll, I see I’ve missed something comment worthy.
But this piece especially is stunning. I expect to hear the voice of Charlton Heston, bellowing and humbling.
You seem to master so many mediums.
My sister would be so happy if Charlton Heston bellowed! lol Thank-you for this wonderful compliment but I feel master of nothing. At least with watercolor, the water does half the work. What you do with oil is so impressive and has loads of energy!
oh my, this is like seeing evaporation! (smile) the light rising and reflecting is so beautiful! thank you!
I love that; evaporation. It does look humid. Thanks, “Y”.
This is an awesome painting!
Thank-you! for the comment and the visit!
OMG absolutely stunning.
Thank-you, Paintedbrush! Have you ever tried clouds? They are so elusive. I think they make me strive for the abstract in them.
